Origano

E’ una pianta aromatica erbacea a ciclo biologico perenne che arriva a una altezza massima di 70 80 cm cresce prevalentemente in clima temperato e ne esistono di diverse specie. E’ formato da un fusto eretto rossastro con foglie di forma uguale o ellittica e piccoli fiori rosa riuniti in grappoli sull’apice dei rametti presenti tra luglio e agosto.
Il nome origano deriva dal greco “oros” perciò curiosamente detto la “gioia delle montagne” cresce infatti nelle zone impervie e rocciose rallegrando il paesaggio con il rosa intenso dei suoi fiori.Ha una lunga storia come pianta medicinale da sempre usato per facilitare la digestione e curare febbre e raffreddore.
Nei periodi di pestilenza, insieme al timo e alla menta veniva bruciato perchè si riteneva capace di purificare l’aria allontanando le malattie.
In cucina è associato senza dubbio alla pizza ma conferisce un’aroma particolare anche a carni e verdure.
Secondo una leggenda presso il sovrano di Cipro viveva un giovane gentile di nome Amaraco, questi un giorno ebbe il compito di consegnare alla mensa del re un’ampolla contenente un unguento molto profumato, ma entrando nella stanza gli cadde dalle mani e si ruppe in mille pezzi.Il giovane si disperò tanto per il timore di aver perduto la fiducia del re e morì di crepacuore.
Gli dei commossi lo trasformano nella pianta di origano dandogli la straordinaria fragranza dell’unguento che lo aveva portato alla morte.

It is a herbaceous aromatic plant with a perennial biological cycle that reaches a maximum height of 70 80 cm.It grows mainly in a temperate climate and there are several species. It is formed by an erect reddish stem with leaves of the same or elliptical shape and small pink flowers gathered in clusters on the apex of the twigs present between July and August.
The name oregano derives from the Greek “oros” therefore curiously called the “joy of the mountains” it grows in fact in inaccessible and rocky areas, brightening the landscape with the intense pink of its flowers.It has a long history as a medicinal plant that has always been used to aid digestion and treat fevers and colds. In times of pestilence, together with thyme and mint it was burned because it was believed to be capable of purifying the air by removing diseases.
In the kitchen it is undoubtedly associated with pizza but also gives a particular aroma to meats and vegetables.
According to a legend, a gentle young man named Amaraco lived near the sovereign of Cyprus, who one day had the task of delivering to the king’s table an ampoule containing a very fragrant ointment, but entering the room it fell from his hands and broke into a thousand pieces. The young man was so desperate for fear of having lost the king’s trust and died of a broken heart.
The moved gods transform it into the oregano plant giving it the extraordinary fragrance of the ointment that had led to his death.

C’est une plante aromatique herbacée au cycle biologique pérenne qui atteint une hauteur maximale de 70 à 80 cm. Elle pousse principalement sous un climat tempéré et il en existe plusieurs espèces. Il est formé d’une tige rougeâtre dressée avec des feuilles de forme identique ou elliptique et de petites fleurs roses réunies en grappes au sommet des rameaux présents entre juillet et août.
Le nom origan dérive du grec “oros” donc curieusement appelé la “joie des montagnes” il pousse en effet dans des zones inaccessibles et rocheuses, illuminant le paysage du rose intense de ses fleurs.
Il a une longue histoire en tant que plante médicinale qui a toujours été utilisée pour faciliter la digestion et traiter les fièvres et les rhumes. En période de peste, avec le thym et la menthe, il était brûlé car on croyait qu’il était capable de purifier l’air en éliminant les maladies.
En cuisine, il est sans aucun doute associé à la pizza mais donne également un arôme particulier aux viandes et aux légumes.
Selon une légende, un gentil jeune homme nommé Amaraco vivait près du souverain de Chypre, qui eut un jour la tâche de remettre à la table du roi une ampoule contenant un onguent très parfumé, mais en entrant dans la pièce, elle tomba de ses mains et se brisa en mille pièces. Le jeune homme était tellement désespéré d’avoir perdu la confiance du roi et de mourir d’un cœur brisé.
Les dieux émus le transforment en plante d’origan en lui donnant le parfum extraordinaire de l’onguent qui avait conduit à sa mort.
